Enter and view: The Houghtons Care Home

This is an enter and view report by Healthwatch Bedford Borough. Healthwatch representatives visited The Hughtons Care Home to speak to residents and see how the service was being provided there.

During the visit representatives spoke to staff and observed residents.

There are recommendations in this report:

• Consider dementia awareness training for all staff.
• Consider holding staff meetings at various times/days of the week to accommodate all staff, including those working evenings and weekends.
• Ensure all staff have ID badges and wear them throughout their shifts.
• The provider to ensure maintenance is carried out in a timely manner.
• The provider to ensure that Managers are allocated adequate time in staff meetings to update on events that will include their residents.
• Consider restarting the residents and relative’s meetings. 
• The provider to consider recruiting a Housekeeper to give the care staff more time to spend with residents.
