Enter and view: Hope Lodge

Healthwatch Luton carried out an Enter and View visit to Hope Lodge on 19 February 2026. The home provides residential support for adults with learning disabilities associated with autistic spectrum disorder. Overall, Healthwatch found a clean, homely and well-maintained environment with a calm atmosphere. Residents spoke positively about living at the home, describing staff as supportive, approachable and willing to help when needed. 

Residents reported feeling settled and safe, and staff were observed interacting with them in a respectful and person-centred way. Staff demonstrated an understanding of individual needs and adapted communication methods where required. Residents were supported to access healthcare services, maintain contact with family and take part in community activities. Staff also described a positive team culture and ongoing training opportunities.

Residents enjoyed a range of activities including shopping trips, library visits, bingo, puzzles, reading and community outings. They were also involved in aspects of meal preparation and reported being able to choose what they ate and how they spent their time. While feedback about activities was generally positive, some residents said they would welcome a wider variety of group activities within the home. 

Healthwatch concluded that Hope Lodge provides a supportive and personalised service that promotes independence and wellbeing. Recommendations focused on increasing the variety of activities available within the home and continuing to develop communication support for residents with differing needs, particularly those with limited verbal communication.
