Summary of report content

Healthwatch Sefton have conducted an Enter and View visit in September 2018 to The Hollies Residential Care Home which provides accommodation and personal care to up to 24 people. The report detailed feedback from 4 residents, 3 members of staff and 5 family members.

Observations made by the enter and view representatives included: that there was good signage and access to the building; the corridors were uncluttered but carpet and banister were not contrast colours; and the kitchen was rated as excellent along side the dining and communal areas.

Feedback from staff, residents and family members suggest that the staff were friendly, efficient and supportive and that there was an open door policy where they could be contacted at anytime. There was evidence that all residents had individual care plans that staff were familiar with and that these were updated to reflect changes as and when they happen. All staff and family members commented that they felt staff had enough time to deliver appropriate care, including mental health support. The staff and residents indicated that they had access to healthcare services in the home and were taken to appointments outside of the home as well.

Recommendations were made to improve the interior and exterior environment to support access and mobility around the home. It was recommended that all staff have mandatory training in mental health and well being support.

The response from the service provider was positive and all recommendations have been addressed with an action plan and explanation in detail.
