Summary of report content

Healthwatch Walsall undertook an announced enter and view visit to Highgate Lodge Care Home on 7 February 2024.  They spoke to 5 residents, 1 relative and 1 staff member.

Key findings

The internal décor/paint/wallpaper is currently being refreshed.

Drinks were consistently offered to the residents during the visit.

Some residents felt there was not a lot of choice. There were mixed views about activities available and residents feeling bored. Activities had reduced to some exercise sessions from an external source with some additional but not daily activity.

There are current vacancies for an Activities Co-Ordinator and Deputy Manager. A staff member said they would like to spend more time with residents and the employment of an Activities Co-Ordinator would help.

There were no odours during the visit.

The report contains six recommendations and a response from the provider.
