Summary of report content

Healthwatch Slough and Healthwatch Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead undertook an announced enter and view visit to Herewards House on 8th and 13th September 2025.

In total the team spoke to five residents and spoke to/received surveys from ten relatives and sixteen members of staff.

The report focuses on independence and choice with particular emphasis on activities and food as well as using the King's Fund Dementia Friendly Tool.

The manager had been sent an Enter and View report from another care home in the area and had already noted some of the recommendations and started implementing changes in terms of improving the 'hot' and 'cold' tap markings.

The garden was accessible with the more mobile residents able to move freely in and out on the two days of the visit, where the weather was dry and sunny.

The feedback from the residents and relatives was very positive especially for the standard of care. The food also received a positive response including from the team member who sampled the lunch.

Ninety percent of the residents are funded by local authorities and the manager explained that this limited the ability to update the decor. However, all relatives acknowledged that the standard of care was the most important factor in their satisfaction with the home.

Staff retention was excellent with some of the team being in post for over twenty years, although recent changes to sponsorship rules was a concern to the manager in terms of future recruitment.
