Enter and view: Grimsby Manor Care Home, North West Lincolnshire

In November 2016, Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire carried out a enter and view visit to Grimsby Manor Care Home.

The Purpose of the Visit was to review the following areas of the service:

• To engage with service users of the named service and understand how dignity is being respected in the care home environment

• To review key themes; Food & Drink, Safeguarding, Staffing, Personal Care and Medication

• To observe residents and relatives engaging with the staff and their surroundings

• Capture the experience of residents and relatives and any ideas they may have for change

The visiting team spoke with staff and some family members, residents were observed during the visit.

Some of the findings are as follows:

• The bathrooms that were in use were very cold, the ones that weren’t were being used for storage. We also noticed that the water temperature log in one of the bathrooms had not been filled out since 2014.

• Concerns from relatives around staffing levels and time spent in personal care with residents.

• Staff appeared very caring and addressed all residents by name.

• Staff seemed to have a good hands on approach with residents around activities to get them active and involved.

• Some minor concerns around privacy, dignity and respect.

Recommendations made within the report:

• Revisit the procedure regarding bathroom temperature books.

• To remind staff to reposition the call bell if required as not all call bells were placed with reach of residents.

• Review staff levels at night.

• Remove the broken electrical equipment from the quiet room.

The Service Provider provided a response which can be seen in the report. The report states changes or commentary on the findings.
