Healthwatch Cumberland undertook an Enter and View visit to Gregory House on 19 March 2026. The visit was a follow-up to a previous visit in 2025 and found that a number of improvements had been made, including greater personalisation of residents' room doors and a clean, welcoming and well-maintained environment. Staff were observed interacting respectfully with residents, responding promptly to requests for assistance and supporting a range of person-centred activities and opportunities for independence.
The home, which supports adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex mental health needs, was observed to have accessible communal areas, clear picture signage and a pleasant outdoor space. Staff described a strong focus on person-centred care, with residents supported to take part in activities such as gym sessions, shopping trips, meals out and maintaining contact with family members. Most staff felt they had the training needed to carry out their roles and spoke positively about working at the home.
Some areas for improvement were identified. Staff raised concerns about staffing levels at certain times of day, which they felt could affect opportunities for person-centred support and training. Healthwatch also noted that the activities board contained outdated information, communal spaces offered limited opportunities for social interaction, and there was a lack of adaptations for people with visual or hearing impairments. Staff additionally reported difficulties accessing internal communications and felt that feedback to management was not always clearly communicated.
Healthwatch Cumberland recommended updating the activities board more regularly, reviewing communal spaces to encourage greater social interaction, and improving communication between management and staff. The report concluded that Gregory House had made positive progress since the previous visit, with only a small number of recommendations identified for further improvement.
