Healthwatch Derbyshire conducted an Enter and View visit to The Grange Care Home on 16 February 2018.
During 2017/2018, Healthwatch Derbyshire invited local health and social care organisations to nominate services where an Enter & View was considered suitable and would benefit both the service and the provider and/or commissioner of that service. The Grange Care Home was nominated by Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Groups.
This home offers 50 en-suite single rooms spread over two floors, providing both residential and nursing care. Six rooms have connecting doors, offering up to three double rooms which can serve as a private living room and separate bedroom. At the time of the visit one double room was occupied by a married couple. Respite care beds are also available.
Enter and View Authorised Representatives gathered information through observation and by speaking with residents, their visitors, and staff.
The report notes that: the décor of the ground floor was in good condition and the entrance lobby and hall welcoming, however the first floor appeared less homely and required refurbishment; residents and visitors praised the quality of the food; there appeared to be a broad offer of activities provided for residents; Authorised Representatives observed good signage and visual aids across the property to support resident’s needs. One negative observation noted that relatives raised some concerns around care plans not being followed and toileting prompts or assistance not being made frequently enough.
The Service Provider responded positively to the report and has responded with actions that have been taken, or are underway, in relation to all 15 recommendations made by Healthwatch Derbyshire.
