Enter and view: Gracewell of Maids Moreton

Healthwatch, Bucks conducted an Enter and View visit to Gracewell of Maids Moreton, a residential/nursing care home with 6 residents living with Dementia. on 18th December 2015. This was an unannounced visit, although the Care Home was given 2 weeks’ notice.

The atmosphere was like a home; staff and visitors were invited to eat with the residents. Staff try and fulfil residents ‘wishes’ in some ingenious ways; for example, when one of the residents expressed a wish to visit Italy, staff organised an Italian evening.

Residents are supported and occupied with lots of activities including attending Church, having a book club, bridge club, painting and taking part in competitive games like skittles. They are also encouraged to use the salon where they can have their hair and nails done.

Staff showed respect and were able to maintain residents' dignity by asking permission before doing anything; for example, the nurse came and gave medication to a resident after asking him whether he would like to go his room to take them. Inclusivity was shown by a nurse who brought a card to a resident who was visually impaired and asked her whether she would like the card opened and read to her.
