In September 2016, Healthwatch Warrington carried out a enter and view visit with a view to exploring GP Access at The Guardian Medical Centre. Healthwatch Warrington planned the visit find out how services are being run and make recommendations where there are areas for improvement. The visits to practices was planned primarily because access to primary care services (mainly GPs) had been identified as a recurrent theme within the public feedback data collected by Healthwatch Warrington.
The report highlights the findings from 10 patient survey responses, feedback from staff and observations. In summary whilst there were some issues raised about getting through to the surgery by phone, the patients spoken to thought the surgery offered a good service.
There were 4 recommendations made within the report:
• Front entrance signage
• Clearer notice boards
• Promoting and developing the Patient Participation Group (PPG)
• Phone waiting times improvements
The response from the provider included acknowledgment and action on areas highlighted within the report including repair of the signage and promotion of the PPG.
