Summary of report content

This is an enter and view report conducted by Healthwatch Bucks 17 February, 2017. During the visit Healthwatch representatives spoke to 26 people, which included a mix of staff, residents and relatives. The visit was unannounced but a two week window for the visit was given.

Overall the home was found to be operating to a good standard. Residents seemed to be happy with the care they were receiving.

Recommendations were made as part of this report. A response from the home manager has been attached.

Summary of recommendations:

- Ensure staff interact with residents living in the dementia nursing unit.

- Confirm drinks are easily accessible to those in the dementia nursing unit.

- Ensure there are appropriate activities for those living with dementia particularly in the dementia nursing unit to ensure residents are appropriately stimulated and engaged.

- Look into borrowing reminiscence boxes from Bucks Libraries, getting more fiddle cuffs and fiddle boards and engaging those with dementia in more exercises and singing.

- Try reducing the room temperature slightly (windows were open in some areas).

- Schedule more activities on the first floor.

- Ensure residents are aware that they can move floors using a walker and don’t always need to be moved by wheelchair.

- Book the minibus on a regular basis to enable moreresidents togo outinto the community and on trips with their friends.
