Healthwatch Shropshire conducted and Enter and View visit to Four Rivers Nursing Home on 29th January 2019.
They had a discussion with the manager and deputy manager before being given a short tour around the home, specifically the Dementia Unit. Two Authorised Representatives spoke to two residents, two staff, three relatives and a friend.
Overall, Healthwatch thought the home was a positive, clean environment that encouraged choice and stimulating activities. They home had a range of activities for the residents to enjoy from external performers and musicians, coordinated by the activity coordinator.
Healthwatch suggested the following should be considered: make menus easier for residents to read by using a larger font format and pictures, if space permits, provide areas of seating along corridors/walkways for residents to rest during a walk or to have a change of scenery, provide a suggestion box for relatives or visitors who are reluctant to discuss concerns or views face to face, hold regular relatives’ meetings to give general information about the home that may concern them.
