On 11th April 2017, Healthwatch Havering undertook an Enter and View visit to the Fountains Care Home. This is a 62-bedroomed care home with three floors; at the time of the visit, there were 20 general residents on the ground floor, 20 residents living with dementia on the first floor and 20 general residents on the second floor.
Whilst viewing the home, the team noted several items of minor disrepair that required attention, however, they were pleased to note that air conditioning had been installed in the laundry, as recommended following a previous visit to the home. The kitchen and the fridge were clean and tidy. Staff were aware of health and safety procedures, and one was trained mental health nurse. Adequate support was being given to residents receiving end of life care as well as those who were immobile or living with dementia. Communication difficulties were covered by pictorial menus, braille and sign language. Staff engaged well with the residents and organised events and activities to keep the residents engaged.
The report made only one recommendation- for the décor and furnishing of the home to be reviewed and replaced, repaired or refurbished as necessary.
