Enter and view: Fountain Court

Healthwatch Sandwell carried out an Enter and View visit to Fountain Court in June 2026. Fountain Court is a local authority-run residential care home providing specialist support for older people living with dementia and mental health needs. Overall, Healthwatch found the home to be welcoming, safe, well maintained and person-centred, with residents appearing comfortable, relaxed and well supported. Staff interactions were consistently positive, and residents spoke warmly about their surroundings, activities and daily life.

The environment was a notable strength. The home was clean, accessible and designed to support people living with dementia, with personalised bedroom displays, sensory features, reminiscence resources and attractive communal spaces. Residents particularly enjoyed the garden, which offered safe outdoor access, seating and opportunities for gardening, bird feeding and relaxation. Healthwatch also observed positive use of activity resources and meaningful engagement by staff, despite the absence of a dedicated activities coordinator.

Staff were praised for their caring, respectful and professional approach. Residents appeared to have positive relationships with staff, who demonstrated good understanding of individual needs and preferences. The home was reported to have strong staff retention, good links with healthcare professionals and regular access to GP, nursing, podiatry and dental services. Staff also described receiving ongoing dementia training and support to manage challenging situations appropriately. 

Healthwatch concluded that Fountain Court provides a high-quality service with strong person-centred practice and positive outcomes for residents. Recommendations focused on further enhancing dementia-friendly wayfinding, developing life story documentation for all residents and sharing examples of good practice with other residential care services. The provider welcomed the report and highlighted the positive findings.
