On 17 April 2019, Healthwatch Wiltshire undertook an unannounced Enter and View visit to Ferfoot Care Home to look at the quality of life of the people living at the home. The home provided residential and residential dementia care for up to 56 residents.
The home was found to be clean, appropriately furnished with lots of activity materials readily available to residents; the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly but there were some areas which could be further improved; the residents were happy with the care and got on well with staff members; they also liked the food. All the visitors spoke positively about the home and were satisfied with the care their relatives received. Staff members were pleasant and happy to talk to and enjoyed their work and had been given training.
The report recommended to continue the refurbishment plans with specific attention to colour contrast for the residents’ room doors; review the safety of the fencing in the garden, any health and safety issues in a new resident’s room and the environment in relation to being dementia friendly; to ensure a smooth transfer of management to the new permanent manager in June 2019. The providers responded by saying that they have taken all recommendations on board and would take necessary actions.
