Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted an Enter and View visit at Farmhouse Residential Rest Home on 12 March 2018.
The visit evaluated the home's adherence to the eight quality indicators for care homes, developed by Independent Age. Healthwatch Staffordshire's report notes that the Enter and View Authorised Representatives found Farmhouse Rest Home to have a warm and welcoming atmosphere with staff who were open and happy to communicate.
A further observation of good practice noted in the report was that the corridor walls were all painted by the Activity Coordinator detailing “Past to Present” events. Starting in 1910 and progressing through the decades, it is a “Memory Lane” captured in the corridors.
The home publishes a regular newsletter and the minutes of all resident and relative meetings are displayed.
Healthwatch Staffordshire found that the home met all of the Independent Age Quality Indicators to meet their requirements of a being a good care home. The report made recommendations around dedicated funding for the Activities Coordinator and suggested the home consider building a conservatory.
The very positive provider response is contained within an evaluation of the Enter and View visit to the Care Home and the manager indicates that an extension to the home is part of an existing improvements plan and that they will look at introducing an activities budget.
