Healthwatch South Gloucestershire gather information on people’s experiences of health and social care services and there are times when it is appropriate for Healthwatch South Gloucestershire to see and hear for themselves how services are being delivered: these visits are called ‘Enter and View’, they are not inspections.
Healthwatch South Gloucestershire visited Elgar Enablement Unit Southmead Hospital on 8th October 2018.
The key findings highlighted areas in relation to patient feedback, staff feedback and observation. In summary the report informed that the unit was very clean, bright and cheerful . The unit had enthusiastic and dedicated staff. Delays in patient discharge are already occurring.
The recommendations in the report state when planning an Enter and View visit, Healthwatch will seek assurance that there will be a named individual to meet the team and facilitate the visit. It was unclear from this visit as to how Elgar Enablement Unit fits into the 3Rs pathways for South Gloucestershire residents, if at all. It would be useful to have clarity around this.
