Healthwatch Croydon conducted and Enter and view on Dunheved Lodge, a privately-run care home, on 13th March 2017. the home is for adults with learning disability, aged between 29 and 75 years old. Two residents were interviewed by Healthwatch Croydon.
This visit was arranged as part of Healthwatch Croydon’s Enter and view schedule.
Observation by the Enter and view representatives reported that: the home environment was neat, tidy and clean; the lounge had a TV a number of board games; a notice board in the reception area was displayed with information on activities and events; staff were engaging with residents and supportive; food was good and tasty.
Negative observations were also noted; the lift was not working, which is not suitable for residents with mobility issues; some laundry left in the lounge area; the notice boards were a little cluttered and may benefit from more space for notices; the first floor had a slight smell of urine;
The report made the following recommendations:
• To review maintenance plans and to upgrade facilities in a timely manner
• To review the requirements for a working lift
• To review with residents, families and carers whether the bedroom environment meets the needs of individual residents
• To review the range of activities available and that it meets the needs of residents
