Summary of report content

Healthwatch Hillingdon undertook an enter and view visit to Drayton Village Care Centre on 19 January 2026.  They spoke to 18 people.

Overall, the care home was found to be clean, welcoming, and friendly, with positive interactions observed between staff, residents, and visitors, and good basic safety arrangements such as visible fire procedures and infection‑control measures. Residents, families, and staff generally expressed high satisfaction with staff kindness, cleanliness, meals, and the complaints process, and many families noted improvements and increased stability following the reduction in agency staff use.

However, the visit identified several areas for improvement, most notably the limited visibility and consistency of activities, especially during holiday periods, and a strong shared desire among residents, staff, and families for more regular outdoor access and trips, including better support for wheelchair users. The environment was not consistently dementia‑friendly, with poor visual contrast, missing orientation aids such as large clocks and calendars, and inconsistent signage, which may affect residents’ independence and orientation.

Additional concerns included strong odours and possible ventilation issues, trip hazards caused by fans and wet‑floor signs, out‑of‑date or cluttered information boards, and weaknesses in communication, such as a resident reporting language barriers and some families experiencing delays in follow‑up to requests like physiotherapy. Staff reported feeling supported and well trained but highlighted the physical and emotional demands of dementia care, particularly during periods of sundowning.

The report concludes that Drayton Village Care Centre is generally well‑run and safe, with committed staff and responsive management, but recommends targeted improvements in visitor sign‑in and wayfinding, outdoor access, ventilation, laundry processes, information clarity, activity delivery, communication support, and dementia‑friendly design to enhance residents’ day‑to‑day experience and quality of life.
