Summary of report content

In May 2017, Healthwatch Rochdale carried out an enter and view visit to the premises of Barbar and & Partners GP Practice. The practice was chosen as a result of information from the intelligence centre which highlights key trends in areas of quality, service and access in relation to GP services.

The visit included dialogue with 12 patients and the practice professionals.

The recommendations made as a result of the visit were:

1. The practice should delineate the area around the reception desk to ensure patients' privacy, dignity and confidentiality.

2. The practice should review the information on displays and on the information boards in the reception area, group posters according to theme and select posters with good pictures, large font size and limited text.

3. The practice should ensure hand sanitising gel is available in view of patients; to use when accessing medical areas or to use when appropriate.

4. The practice should review Patient Participation Group (PPG) recruitment information and publications with the overall aim to increase membership to the group.

The report includes the response from the practice on the 4 recommendation areas, detailing the action the Practice would take to address the findings.

The responses are shown below:

1. Arrange meeting with buildings manager to organise a glass screen to be constructed or cordon off the reception area to only allow single file queuing

2. Designate staff member to organise and review on regular basis

3. Arrange with buildings manager

4. Review and organise poster in prominent position in patient waiting area
