Healthwatch Cheshire West conducted an Enter and View visit to Davenham Day Centre on 20 February 2014.
The day centre is operated by Vivo, a private Community Interest Company funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council. The centre provides day care for up to 40 frail elderly clients each day, with 80% of clients having some form of Dementia. . There is no nursing care provided which means the service is not regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
Based on the observations of the Authorised Representatives, the centre is clean, warm and welcoming. It is light and airy with spacious corridors and grab rails fitted where needed. Good interaction between staff and clients and between the staff themselves were noted by the visiting team, as were the homely including fresh flowers, well laid luncheon tables and pleasant decorations. The service users that spoke to Healthwatch West Cheshire said they loved coming to the centre and look forward to their visit each week and indicated that they were happy with the care, facilities and range of activities on offer at the centre.
The report suggests that, although very clean and fresh, the Authorised Representatives felt that the environment may not follow best practice guidelines in relation to dementia e.g. all doors were painted the same colour as the walls.
There was no provider response included within this report.
