Summary of report content

Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit to Darcy House, an Extra Care housing scheme, on 29 January 2014.

The facility has 52 flats and bungalows with onsite care available 24 hours a day when residents need or ask for it and one hot meal each day included in the rent.

On the basis of this visit, Authorised Representatives felt that Darcy House is a comfortable place where individuals receive a good standard of care. The report notes that residents seem to be generally happy with the services provided, are very much aware that this is a independent living setting. and report that they are happy to be independent, with assistance if needed.

The report makes a number of recommendations including the need for alternative personal hygiene arrangements when a residents own bathroom is needing maintenance or repair; the need to improve the long wait time reported by residents when using the buzzer/ call system and; the comments made by residents regarding the temperature of the hot meals when they are delivered.

The provider has given a response to the call system/ buzzer concerns and mentions escorted outings for residents if they are interested and willing to pay for them but does not acknowledge the remaining recommendations.
