Healthwatch Greenwich found Cullum Welch Court to be a well-maintained, welcoming care home providing residential, respite, nursing and dementia care for older people. The home was easily accessible, clean and homely, with attractive communal areas, themed corridors and a particularly well-designed garden featuring a sensory area, pond and fountain.
The home offered a wide range of activities, supported by a dedicated activities coordinator, a weekly newsletter and access to outings through its own minibus. Residents could also access hairdressing, holistic therapies and support to attend places of worship. Meals were freshly prepared on site, offered good choice and visitors were welcome to join residents at mealtimes.
Staff relationships with residents were highlighted as a key strength. The home did not rely on agency staff, and Healthwatch observed permanent staff interacting warmly and attentively with residents. Staff were described as responsive to residents' needs and proactive in supporting those who received little family contact.
Overall, Healthwatch concluded that residents appeared well cared for and comfortable in the home. The only recommendation was to introduce more dementia-friendly pictorial signage to help residents navigate the building more independently.
