Summary of report content

Healthwatch Liverpool carried out an Enter and View visit to Crompton Court in May 2024. The home provides residential care for up to 33 residents and, at the time of the visit, supported 29 people. Overall, Healthwatch found a clean, welcoming and homely environment with strong leadership and a positive atmosphere. Residents, relatives and staff consistently described the home as friendly, supportive and well managed, and staff retention was particularly notable, with several team members having worked there for many years.

Residents spoke positively about the quality of care, relationships with staff, activities and food. Healthwatch observed warm interactions between staff and residents and noted a wide range of activities including music sessions, crafts, karaoke, gardening and one-to-one support. The home was well decorated, personalised by residents and designed to feel more like a home than a clinical setting. Family members praised communication from staff and said they felt well informed and involved in care decisions.

The report highlighted strong links with healthcare services, particularly local GPs, district nurses and opticians. However, management reported ongoing difficulties accessing dental services, with some families having to arrange private dental care. The home was also using the Medicare/Telemed service, which staff felt was beneficial overall but occasionally lacked flexibility in responding to individual circumstances.

Healthwatch concluded that Crompton Court provides a high-quality, person-centred service with a positive culture and strong staff-resident relationships. No formal recommendations were made. Examples of good practice included excellent staff retention, effective communication with residents and families, a varied activities programme and the creation of a warm, non-clinical environment that residents appeared to enjoy and value.
