Enter and view: Cranham Court Nursing Home, Havering

Healthwatch Havering visited Cranham Court Nursing Home to conduct an Enter and View visit to assess the quality of services being offered to patients and measure the level of patient safety.

The home was generally thought to have charm and a welcoming feel. The visitors reported that the care home and surrounding gardens were in good order but decorative standards could be improved. Toilets, baths and basins needed de-scaling as a matter of priority. It was recommended that care home staff ensure residents are able to use the call bell system with regular checks made to ensure this is in effect. When a forthcoming refurbishment is due toughened glass doors are fitted to notice boards to stop patients with dementia from removing or defacing notices. The foyer which the visitors felt appeared cold and uninviting, needs to be brightened and should display the names, job titles and photos of permanent staff. Curtains and carpets should be deep cleaned. The kitchen was observed to be clean and well stocked, food was served in a small but pleasant dining room.

Healthwatch made several recommendations about improving decor, encouraging resident's mobility and making the foyer more welcoming. They did not receive a service provider response.
