Healthwatch Havering conducted an Enter and View visit to Cranham Court Nursing Home on the 16 January 2018.
The report notes that the Nursing Home is set in 11 acres of gardens, almost a parkland setting, which afford most of the rooms good views of countryside. The Home is in two parts: an extended large house and a purpose-built separate wing called Woodlands, which accommodates the dementia unit and has en-suite bedrooms, all of good size, plus a Nurse's room and a treatment room which houses all the drugs in a locked cupboard.
Although not specified, the visit appears to have been carried out at the Woodlands wing of the nursing home and is based largely on the observations of the Authorised Representatives covering the physical environment, staffing, and processes surrounding the care provision. The report notes that there are regular visits by an optician, dentist, and chiropodist with physiotherapy accessed via the GP. A hairdresser attends weekly.
Positive observations were made about the atmosphere of the home and residents reported enjoying the views from their rooms and feeling safe.
The report made three recommendations, one of which was to consider providing more variation in the décor to reduce the possibility of residents becoming confused by their surroundings.
