Enter and view: Corona House

Healthwatch Wirral carried out an Enter and View visit to Corona House Residential Home, a small nine-bed residential care home in Prenton. The visit found a welcoming, homely environment with positive feedback from residents, relatives and staff. The home was described as clean, comfortable and well maintained, with personalised bedrooms, attractive communal areas and a varied programme of activities supported by a dedicated activities coordinator. 

Residents and relatives were highly positive about the quality of care provided. Residents said they felt well cared for and could not identify any significant areas for improvement. Relatives consistently praised the service, with some describing it as the best care home their family member had experienced. Healthwatch observed warm and respectful interactions between staff and residents and found evidence that staff knew residents well and supported their independence.

The home demonstrated a strong focus on quality and safety, including person-centred care planning, staff training, regular audits and close working with healthcare professionals. The service also participated in a tele-triage scheme, allowing staff to access clinical support from senior nurses using digital technology when residents became unwell. Staff reported high job satisfaction and felt able to provide the level of care residents required. 

Healthwatch concluded that Corona House was providing a high-quality service in a calm and supportive environment. Recommendations focused on displaying Healthwatch feedback leaflets, improving access to hand sanitiser in reception, exploring additional community activities and considering dementia-friendly features in any future refurbishment plans.
