Healthwatch Coventry carried out an enter and view visit to Cordelia Court Care Home on 16 December 2016 to gather information about residents’ experiences of living in the home and to assess quality of life, care and support. During the visit, Healthwatch spoke with six residents, six visitors and six members of staff, and observed the environment and interactions within the home.
The visit found Cordelia Court to be a clean, welcoming and well-maintained care home. Residents and visitors were generally positive about the quality of care provided, describing staff as kind, friendly and respectful. Healthwatch observed caring interactions between staff and residents and found that people were supported to maintain their dignity and independence wherever possible.
Residents reported being satisfied with the food, accommodation and support they received. The home provided a range of activities and opportunities for social engagement, and visitors praised the communication they received from staff. Healthwatch also noted several dementia-friendly features, including personalised bedroom doors and appropriate signage to help residents navigate the building.
Healthwatch concluded that Cordelia Court provided a positive environment and a good standard of care. Recommendations focused on further enhancing dementia-friendly design, improving access to outdoor areas for some residents, and continuing to develop opportunities for meaningful activities and social interaction.
