The team found the home to be comfortable and very tastefully decorated. It had extensive grounds which were used a lot in the warmer months. There was much evidence of activities and entertainment with jigsaws and games out in the residential lounge, shelves of a variety of books and reminiscence boxes in two lounges. The team was told that religious services take place at the home or residents can go to church if arranged in advance.
Overall the home received ratings of 5 stars in all areas of Quality of life, personal choice, how people are treated, just like being at home, and 4 stars in the area of privacy. The Healthwatch team found the staff to be very responsive and attentive to the residents, and they were described as being “excellent” and respectful to the residents’ requests.
Overall the team observed 15 residents and 12 staff members and noted that a wide range of options, whether they be meals or activities were offered to the residents and they were well supported by staff to make different choices. They concluded Chiltern Grange had a relaxed feel to the home and staff have time to engage positively with residents
