Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bucks conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit, as part of a planned set of visits looking at the care provided, specifically around how the homes are able to support residents with additional needs.

Healthwatch Bucks visited The Chestnuts, on 06/06/2018.

The Chestnuts currently provides residential care for 40 people in 4 units. Two of these, on the ground floor, are where people live with dementia. On the first floor, one unit provides residential care whilst the other provides exclusively respite care. Healthwatch Bucks talked to 9 residents, 3 visitors and 6 members of staff. Healthwatch Bucks observed a further 13 residents, 1 visitor and 6 staff members.

The summary of findings included: Healthwatch Bucks were told staff are friendly and staff told us they enjoyed working in the home; Whilst the units’ décor was bright and clean there were too many notices placing restrictions on visitors which may also impact on residents’ self esteem; More care needs to be taken to protect each resident’s privacy.
