Summary of report content

Healthwatch Derbyshire conducted two Enter and View visits to the Chesterfield Eye Centre – Eye Clinic on the 3rd and 5th of March 2015. These visits were conducted as a result of feedback collected by Healthwatch Derbyshire and the North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group. The team spoke to staff, patients and carers, and made general observations during the visit.

The report highlighted a number of areas of good practice. Patients and carers gave positive feedback about the attitudes of staff, the children’s waiting area, and the ability of the service to cope with busy clinics and respond to accommodate urgent cases when necessary. Patients gave mostly positive feedback about the appointment systems. The report also highlighted some areas for improvement. Patients and carers reported that the waiting area could become cold and draughty, due to the automatic doors. Patients also stated that delays at the clinic were not always explained, and that they would like to have a better idea of the wait time if there is a delay.

The report made several recommendations. Many of these centred around improvements that could be made to make the waiting rooms.

The report included a response from Chesterfield Royal NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust implemented a number of recommendations immediately. Several other recommendations were implemented over time.
