Summary of report content

Healthwatch Isle of Wight conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit to Cherry Trees Residential Home in April 2024. The focus areas of the visit was the quality of care, the provision of activities, the experience of visiting and the food and drink.  This visit was arranged as part of an ongoing workplan, looking at the experiences of people living in six residential care or nursing care homes on the Island.

Overall the visit found a generally positive environment with residents feedback listened to, a variety of activities are offered and visitors able to drop by with ease. There were some areas of improvement found, particularly in meal support and communication.

The team made 6 recommendations, mainly about the food and meals provision, including: Avoiding delays for residents needing help with meals, offering condiments during meals, improving staff communication, using pictures for menu choices, providing fresh fruit regularly, and finding ways for residents to access the local community, such as alternative transport or wheelchair support.
