Summary of report content

Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham undertook an Enter and View visit to Chaseview Nursing Home in Romford on the 30th of July 2019. Their purpose was to observe an engage with residents and staff.

During the visit, Healthwatch representatives listened to residents and their relatives who said the service was meeting their needs and that the staff were supportive and very caring. They were generally happy with the care that was being provided and staff were seen to be proactively supporting the residents. Healthwatch staff found that due to a high turnover of staff at the home, some residents found it unsettling as it affected the continuity of their care. Also, there were times when there were not enough staff around to respond when assistance was required. The building and facilities were not maintained to the highest of standards. Residents were generally satisfied with the choice of food available; their respect and dignity were maintained; there was little or no social entertainment provided for residents however relatives could visit at any time.

The report made 4 recommendations and contains a response from the service provider. the main areas of concern well availability of staff; having a manager in post; staffing at reception area and malodour within the building.
