Healthwatch Greenwich visited Charlton Park Care Home, which provides residential, nursing and dementia care. Overall, the home was found to be spacious, welcoming and well maintained, with good accessibility, attractive communal areas and a wide range of facilities for residents.
Staff were observed interacting positively with residents, treating them with dignity and respect and responding promptly to requests for assistance. Residents appeared well cared for and had access to a varied programme of activities, outings, beauty treatments, a hairdresser and opportunities to practise their faith. Meals offered good choice and residents were able to maintain flexibility around daily routines.
Healthwatch identified a small number of areas for improvement. Some décor and communal bathrooms appeared dated, key staff photographs were not displayed in communal areas, and dementia-friendly signage could be expanded, particularly in communal spaces and on bedroom doors. There was also no resident newsletter to share information about activities and events.
Overall, Healthwatch concluded that Charlton Park Care Home provided a positive environment with caring staff and good opportunities for resident engagement. Recommendations focused on improving communication, modernising parts of the environment and increasing dementia-friendly features throughout the home.
