Healthwatch West Northamptonshire undertook an Enter and View visit to Chacombe Park Care Home on 21 July 2026.
The visit found that the home provided a welcoming, well-maintained and dementia-friendly environment with spacious communal areas, personalised bedrooms and attractive outdoor spaces. Residents, relatives and staff were generally very positive about the quality of care, describing staff as kind, respectful and supportive. Healthwatch observed positive interactions throughout the home, good access to healthcare professionals, a varied programme of activities and strong efforts to support residents' independence and wellbeing.
Residents particularly valued the range of activities, opportunities to spend time outdoors and the caring relationships they had with staff. Relatives praised communication and felt involved in their loved ones' care. However, some concerns were raised about the repetition and variety of meals, communication when menu items were unavailable and the need for more variety in activities. Healthwatch also identified a small number of environmental issues, including exposed wiring, an incorrect clock and signage in the independent living apartments that could be difficult for some residents with visual impairments to read.
Healthwatch West Northamptonshire concluded that Chacombe Park provided high-quality, person-centred care with many examples of good practice. Recommendations included increasing meal variety, continuing to make full use of outdoor spaces, maintaining dementia-friendly features, improving room signage in independent living areas, addressing minor maintenance issues and increasing the routine use of coloured crockery to support residents living with dementia. The provider accepted all recommendations and outlined actions to address them.
