Enter and view: Castletroy

Healthwatch Luton carried out an Enter and View visit to Castletroy Care Home on 14 May 2026. The home provides residential care for older people, including residents living with dementia, physical disabilities and mental health conditions. Overall, Healthwatch found a clean, welcoming and well-maintained environment with a calm atmosphere. Residents, relatives and staff were positive about the home, describing it as friendly, inclusive and supportive. 

Residents said they felt safe and well cared for, and spoke positively about staff communication and support. Relatives reported being kept informed about their family members’ care and praised the responsiveness of staff and management. The home offered a range of activities and opportunities for social engagement, while residents also valued the flexibility to make choices about their daily routines, meals and how they spent their time. 

Feedback about food was very positive, with residents reporting a good choice of meals and the flexibility to request alternatives if needed. Staff described a supportive team culture with regular training, strong leadership and good links with healthcare professionals, including GPs, dentists, opticians and mental health services. Healthwatch observed respectful interactions between staff and residents throughout the visit. 

Healthwatch concluded that Castletroy provides a high-quality, person-centred service that promotes residents’ wellbeing, independence and choice. Recommendations focused on improving communication about activities so residents are always aware of what is available and introducing more visual ways of presenting meal choices, particularly for people living with dementia or communication difficulties.
