Healthwatch Bedford Borough conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Byron Court on 9 April 2015. The home provides residential care for people with learning disabilities. The team engaged with residents and staff and made general observations about the home throughout the visit. Healthwatch Bedford Borough had informally visited the home the year before.
The team found that the majority of issues previously discussed with the home had been addressed. The physical environment was generally safe and welcoming. There was, however, an area of concern where there was a gap in the stair banister which the team felt could result in an injury, and the carpet in the hall was in need of replacing. The residents are encouraged to be involved in their care plan and maintain independence. The residents engaged with were positive about their experience in the home and the care they receive. The team found it disappointing that staff had not accessed the formal training to facilitate the communication needs of one resident.
The report made recommendations in regard to the physical environment and staff training.
The report did not include a response from the service provider.
