Healthwatch Bucks conducted an Enter and View to Burnham Lodge care home in August 2019. The home provides nursing and residential care for 35 people. The Healthwatch representatives engaged with 21 residents, staff and visitors.
Residents regarded the staff as caring and they know the residents' history and personalities. Residents were able to choose their meals and where to eat them. The home is being redecorated during the visit but there were no personal items, such as pictures or photos in the corridors. Residents reported that staff members often chose whether their bedroom doors were open or closed, but will close them when personal care is given. There was an activity schedule but this did not match with the activities during the visit.
The recommendations included increasing chair-based exercises; discussions around personalised care; offer written and pictorial menus for residents; add more reminiscence material into communal areas.
The service provider disagreed with findings in the report.
