Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cheshire East conducted an announced enter and view visit to Brookview Nursing and Residential Centre on 5 May 2015. It was selected as part of their Summer 2015 scheduled visits to care homes. The home provides care for residents who may be frail, elderly or have dementia. On the day of the visit, the team spoke with the service manager, staff members, 11 residents and 2 residents. The team’s observations of the home were also included in the findings.

The team found the home to have a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Residents and relatives were mostly satisfied with the care and support they received from staff. Residents appeared comfortable in the home. Each resident has a named key worker and care plan. The home has a 7 day activities programme, including excursions outside of the home which the residents are encouraged to take part in. However, some felt that more could be done to promote stimulation, both mentally and physically. They felt that the activities, although well planned, could be more social. Relatives praised staff, finding them very caring and that stated that the quality of care was good. The team observed one member of staff interacting with residents in the communal area. This was the main interaction the team observed during their visit.

The report did not include recommendations or a response from the service provider.
