Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cambridgeshire conducted an announced visit to Brookfield Care Home on 4 august 2015. The team engaged with 13 residents, 1 staff member and 1 relative using survey and observational methods to identify what daily life is like for residents and staff and their experiences of care at the home.

The team received positive feedback about the home. The home was welcoming and well maintained and, at the time of the visit, appeared to be operating to a good standard of care. Residents reported that they are able to make decisions about their care and appeared well looked after, comfortable and content. All residents that the team engaged with said that they were happy with the care they received. The team were informed by management that the home has an activity coordinator, although, some residents said that they would like more variety of activities and to be taken out more frequently. Mealtime was considered a positive experience by residents, stating the food is good and that visitors are welcome to join the residents. The staff were observed to be positive, respective and kind with residents. Both residents and relatives gave positive feedback about their interactions with staff.

The report made two recommendations to the home; suggesting an improvement to the signage for the drop of area outside the home, and a recommendation made from all enter and view visits to help promote residents’ opportunities to feedback on their local health and care services by displaying a Healthwatch Cambridgeshire leaflet in their home.

The service provider responded to the report, welcoming the positive feedback and suggesting they are open to ideas to enhance resident quality of life.
