Healthwatch Enfield undertook an Enter and View visit to Bridgewood House Care Home on 1 July 2026.
The visit found that the home provided a clean, welcoming and generally well-maintained environment for older adults, including people living with dementia and learning disabilities. Residents and relatives were broadly positive about the care provided, describing staff as supportive, respectful and caring. Activities such as pet therapy, music, bingo, arts and crafts and social events were well regarded, and residents appreciated being able to personalise their rooms and maintain regular contact with visitors.
However, several areas for improvement were identified. Some residents reported feeling lonely when they first moved into the home and wanted more support during the transition period. Concerns were also raised about hot temperatures during warm weather, limited menu variety, the lack of visible fresh fruit, unclear complaints and feedback processes, and inconsistencies in communication between staff. Relatives and staff highlighted a need for more trained staff, stronger communication and greater support for staff wellbeing and career development.
Healthwatch Enfield made recommendations to improve site security, create a more welcoming and accessible dining environment, introduce additional dementia-friendly features, improve temperature management, strengthen support for new residents, increase opportunities for feedback from residents and families, enhance staff development and wellbeing support, and improve communication and consistency across staff teams. Overall, the report concluded that residents were generally happy with the care they received, but that a number of practical improvements could further enhance their experience.
