In July 2013, Healthwatch Staffordshire carried out an Enter and View visit to the Oak Ward in Bradwell Hospital, Newcastle Under Lyme. The purpose of the visit was to provide an independent assessment of the care provided within the hospital.
Two representatives made observations on the environment and wellbeing of patients, relatives and staff. They found Oak Ward to be a bright and pleasant environment. It was clean and uncluttered and staff at all levels were attentive to the needs of service users, who were treated with dignity and respect.
The report found that effort is made by the hospital to ensure that when service users return to their own homes, they receive all the necessary help to enable them to live as independently as possible.
The report points out that the cooker in the Training Kitchen is gas, but there is no gas supply available. However, no other recommendations are made.
The report does not contain a response from the provider.
