Healthwatch Warrington conducted and Enter and View visit to Birch Court nursing and residential home in February 2019. Birch Court offers General Nursing, Dementia Nursing and Dementia Residential care.
The Enter and View representatives made a number of observations including that the home was clearly signposted and had a visitors book, hand sanitiser, clocks and photographs of members of staff who worked in the home. Staff were observed interacting well with residents in friendly and respectful manner. The Wellbeing Coordinator organised and conducted activities for the residents to participate in. The activities took place in the home, at the on-site coffee shop and planned events and trips into the community were also available. There was a busy on-site hairdressing salon which many residents were attending at the time of the visit. There is a choice of meals available and alternatives are provided if the residents do not like anything on the menu with residents reporting that they felt the food was excellent. The report stated that there was good staff retention and training opportunities with staff members acting positively and happy to care for the residents. All bedrooms had a memory box mounted on the wall outside the door containing family photographs and personal items.
Healthwatch Warrington made two recommendations for the home to action. These included that the home fit privacy curtains in bathrooms and shower rooms; and that the refurbishments to the home will continue to upgrade the home to ensure support for the residents. The service provider responded positively to the report.
