Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin carried out an enter and view visit to Bennett House Residential Care Home on 29 September 2026 as a follow-up to a previous visit undertaken in March 2026. The revisit focused on reviewing progress against five recommendations made during the earlier visit and included discussions with the manager and deputy manager alongside observations of the home environment and resident experience.
The visit found that all five previous recommendations had been addressed. Staff, including agency workers, were wearing name badges and appropriate uniforms, fire exits were clear and unobstructed, and measures had been introduced to reduce noise from televisions and radios in communal areas, particularly during mealtimes. The home was observed to be clean, tidy and well maintained, with completed shower room improvements and enhancements to the garden, including new seating areas for residents.
Healthwatch found that the home had significantly improved how information is presented to residents. Larger-print and pictorial menus are now displayed daily, alongside a pictorial breakfast menu and a “Night Bites” menu. Residents had also been involved in decisions about mealtimes, leading to changes in the meal structure to better reflect their preferences. Positive feedback from residents' families was displayed throughout the home, and residents were observed taking part in activities with the activities coordinator.
Healthwatch concluded that Bennett House had made clear progress since the previous visit and had responded positively to feedback. Particular strengths included improvements to communication, resident choice, fire safety, accessibility of information and the physical environment. The report noted the home's ongoing commitment to improvement, including further development of the garden and dementia-friendly signage.
