Healthwatch Barnsley carried out an Enter and View visit to Belle Green Court Care Home in Cudworth on 10 June 2026. Overall, the home made a very positive impression. Residents, relatives and staff spoke highly of the care provided, describing a welcoming atmosphere, caring staff and strong leadership. Healthwatch found the home to be clean, well maintained and well organised, with good relationships between staff, residents and families.
Residents and relatives were particularly positive about the quality of care, food and activities. The home provided a varied programme of entertainment, outings and social opportunities, supported by a dedicated activities coordinator. Families praised staff for their compassion and communication, with several describing the home as feeling like a family. Residents spoke positively about the food, opportunities to socialise and the support they received from staff.
Healthwatch noted that the ground floor felt livelier and more social than the first floor, where many residents stayed in their rooms. Some environmental improvements were also identified, including making signage more dementia-friendly, using contrasting colours to support people with dementia or visual impairments, improving cooling arrangements during periods of extreme heat and addressing a minor trip hazard where carpets joined.
Healthwatch concluded that Belle Green Court provides a caring and supportive environment where residents generally feel safe, happy and well looked after. Recommendations focused on enhancing dementia-friendly design, creating a staff photo board to help residents and visitors identify team members, improving the atmosphere on the first floor and continuing the programme of environmental improvements already underway.
