The Care Home is part of the Agudas Israel Housing Association Ltd for a maximum of 26 residents and for Orthodox Jewish Residents only and this was an announced Enter and View visit.
Facilities & Services:
Respite Care, Physiotherapy, Sheltered Housing, Own GP if required, Own Furniture if required, Smoking not permitted, Close to Local shops, Access to Public Transport, Minibus or other transport, Lift, Wheelchair access, Gardens for residents, Phone Point in own room/Mobile and Television point in own room.
Methodology :
• Authorised representatives conducted interviews with the Deputy Manager, 3 Staff, 2 Residents, 2 Family members and a Volunteer.
• Focus for questions were quality of care, safety, dignity, respecting and acknowledging the residents’ and families’ wishes and staff training.
• Observations recorded and visiting of the public/communal areas and surroundings with a prepared observational checklist.
Key Findings:
• A well-managed care setting set up to meet the needs of the older Orthodox Jewish community. Improvements have been implemented swiftly following a Care Quality Commission Inspection in 2016 and the home has recently been re-inspected to be rated as ‘Good’.
• Wide variety of activities available to the residents and the homely appeal.
• Staff supported by the management to ensure the cultural and practical needs of the residents are met.
Recommendations:
• A schedule of works drawn up to update the building to modern accessibility standards
• Signing in book to be more accessible to wheelchair users
• Accessible toilet on upper floor to be modernised
• Update managed fire evacuation policy and procedure in line with current good practice
• Review of staffing levels, training and information on provision of care and implementing the Accessible Information Standard.
• Revisit in 3 months’ time to review progress.
