Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bolton conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Beechville on 3 August 2015. The team engaged with 6 residents, 6 staff members and 2 relatives during the visit, using survey methods and noted their general observations of the home.

The findings indicate that the home, at the time of the visit, was operating to a very good standard of care, with residents treated with dignity and respect. There was evidence of positive staff and resident interactions, residents were happy with the food quality and the team were informed of various activities offered to residents. Residents are able to make choices about their daily routine and are encouraged to maintain independence. Staff had received training and reported to be happy with their workloads. The residents, staff and relatives, however, reported that staffing levels at peak times could cause delays in personal care. The home has regular visits from the district nurse and the podiatry service. The home also partakes in a pilot scheme for dentist services. Residents reported, however, that some have long waiting times for treatment for ear conditions.

The reported recommended the following actions; ensuring that residents are informed of maintenance work in the home, to raise concerns with the GP about the length of waiting time for ear-related treatments, and to monitor and maintain staffing levels during peak periods.

The service provider responded to the report and agreed with the recommendations, stating their subsequent actions.
