Healthwatch Enfield carried out an Enter and View visit to Azalea Court Care and Nursing Home. The visit was carried out as part of Healthwatch Enfield’s planned strategy to look at a range of care and nursing homes within the London Borough of Enfield, to assess the quality of care provided. The team were particularly interested in understanding whether residents were receiving personalised care that met their individual needs and whether the care setting “felt like home” to them.
During the visit, many examples of good practice were noted. Relatives and residents said that, overall, Azalea Court provided good care and had many friendly and helpful staff. There was a concern regarding consistency of staff and staff continuity, and it was noted that greater attention should be focused on providing better meal choices and personalised activities where all residents, including those who were not mobile, could join in meaningfully.
Based on the observations of and feedback provided to the Enter and View representatives, Healthwatch Enfield made nine recommendations surrounding: staff training; staff retention, continuity and consistency of care; staff attitudes; call bell responses; dental support for non-mobile residents; personalised activities; and dementia-friendly decor. The report details the response from the service provider.
