Summary of report content

Healthwatch Isle of Wight conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit to Autumn House Residential Home in April 2024. The focus areas of the visit was the quality of care, the provision of activities, the experience of visiting and the food and drink.  This visit was arranged as part of an ongoing workplan, looking at the experiences of people living in six residential care or nursing care homes on the Island.

Overall the visit found a generally positive environment with residents feedback listened and attended to, a variety of activities are offered and visitors able to drop by with ease. There were some areas of improvement found, particularly around cleanliness and decoration of the house. The team also noted they had to ring the bell for a long time to be let in.

The team made 10 recommendations, including ensuring the medication room is securely locked, improving dining facilities and meal options, personalising activity plans, maintaining cleanliness and independence for residents, and redecorating the house.
