Healthwatch Leicester and Leicestershire conducted an Enter and View visit in December 2018 to Ashton Care Home. The representatives made observations and spoke to residents, relatives and staff to gather their feedback on areas of the care home. They focused on particular indicators, such as, "offer a varied programme of activities"; "offer quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes"; and "ensure residents can regularly see health professionals such as GPs, dentists, opticians or chiropodists."
Observations included that the external environment was well looked after and the internal environment was clean and tidy with comfortable furnishings. There was evidence that staff were well trained and specialist training is provided when a resident has a specific medical condition. There was a range of activities on offer including gardening, knit &natter and also families were able to attend entertainment events. There was also evidence that healthcare was offered throughout the home with GP making visits alongside opticians and chiropodists. The mealtimes were flexible with a choice of menu options for every resident. Residents reported that they were happy with the care they received at the home. Relatives reported that they were satisfied that they were able to attend meetings and were made to feel welcome in the home.
The recommendations included that the features of the home could be considered as good practice and these should be shared. The service provider responded positively and no amendments were made
